Woodstock City Council passed a motion to suspend funding for the Woodstock Art Gallery art acquisition reserve fund for one year.
WOODSTOCK - A motion to reduce the Woodstock Art gallery art acquisition funding to zero for 2015, was passed by Woodstock City Council 4 to 2. Councillor Shawn Shapton put the motion forward that would suspend the capital budget funding for the 2015 year. Woodstock Art Gallery Director Mary Reid presented her case to council however it was not enough to convince council to keep the $10,000 funding. Reid said the decision will make it difficult for the Gallery to acquire artwork this year, "...in some ways it does actually hinder my ability as a curator to seek out potential acquisitions that could highlight and strengthen the collection."
Reid points out this year they will have to rely more heavily on private donations of art.
There are other ways the public can support the gallery Reid said, "The alternative would be if people are interested in donating funds towards the acquisition budget that would be fantastic."
