The Woodstock Art Gallery has some major plans in store for their 50th anniversary.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Art Gallery celebrated a major milestone with the release of their newest program ideas.
The Gallery first opened their doors on June 5th, 1966 and have them opened once again to celebrate their 50th birthday.
The announcements included, inducting work from local artists Florence Carlyle and Joe Lima, announcing the art lovers tour, and the "I Support the Arts Campaign."
Mary Reid, Director of the Woodstock Art Gallery talks about the history of the gallery.
"You fast forward as it was started off in the basement of the library. Moved on to its own stand alone facility on Hunter street, and old historic house. Now, today being five years in this facility here, a purpose built, renovated facility for the care and control of artwork."
Reid says they were very excited to launch their new initiatives, especially to show the community about their local talent.
Reid says Lima was born and raised in Woodstock.
"I think what is important is to show the wide range of creativity and talent that resides here. Also, to be able to celebrate and acknowledge the success that our very own are acquiring beyond the city limits."
Another part of the announcement today was congratulating the Friends of the Woodstock Art Gallery who received the June Caldwell award, for outstanding achievement in volunteerism.
Woodstock mayor, Trevor Birtch says the gallery is an integral part of Oxford County.
"This art gallery has become a very important part of the community as it helps encourage and inspire people to greatness."
WAG will be hosting a community birthday celebration on Saturday, April 29th, 2017.
