WOODSTOCK - A well known volunteer in the Friendly City was at city council the other day to talk about two programs in downtown Woodstock.
The programs have amazing people who are a part of them, including volunteers like Karl Harris. Harris works in many programs.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says a community dinner is one of the initiatives that Harris is a part of.
"At the River of Life they have a community dinner that takes place on Tuesday evenings downtown and the individuals that take part in that all have to participate. and they learn to cook together, then they eat together and then they have to clean everything up together."
Woodstock is home to many great community programs, including the ones at the River of Life located in downtown Woodstock.
Harris helps with the Community Free Table on Saturdays from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm and Picnic At The River, which which happens on Tuesdays from 4:30pm until 7:30pm.
Mayor Birtch explains why volunteering in these areas is so important.
"Having the people that are there volunteering and offering, whether it's a drink or a granola bar or more importantly someone to talk to. Some of the individuals that are coming forward for these programs they have a lot of issues and the people that man those tables, they know where to refer them."
All of the programs the city runs are for the people and the community and they are very grateful to people like Harris.
