Tonight The Woodstock Navy Vets have their free home opener against Paris at the Plex and they are expecting a big crowd as they collect donations for the Terry Fox Run.
WOODSTOCK - The Navy Vets opened up their season last night in Ayr with a disappointing loss to the Centennials 5-4.
The Navy Vets scored early in the 3rd period to open a 4-2 lead, but 3 quick goals in 2 minutes midway thru the final period gave the Centennials the upper hand. .
Tonight they have their free home opener against Paris at the Plex. GM and Head Coach Darren Young says he is really excited about this years team.
"We really like the team, we are really excited, we like a lot of the guys that came back of course, we have added a lot of young pieces and then a couple older ones that we really like. One came back from Brantford Junior A, Max Racicot, he is a hometown kid, he played here as a 16 year old, so we are thrilled to have him back and then we have an overage from Wellesely Reide MacInnis, who we are really happy to get, very thrilled to get, he is a great defence man who is really going to help our team, they are really going to help us and play key roles this year."
The Navy Vets acquired MacInnis in a trade with Wellesely, sending Nathan Thibodeau to the Applejacks. Young says they are really excited to play their first game on home ice.
"The home opener is always fun, it's always free, so that is great for the fans and we usually have 1,200 or 1,500 people. Having that is huge, the guys get around that, the young kids, they haven't seen that before, they are used to playing in front of parents and friends."
The Navy Vets are expecting a big crowd tonight and will be collecting donations for the Terry Fox Run.
