Woodstock City Council approved $20,000 dollars to undertake a preliminary design and feasibility study for Woodstock Fire Department's Paksinson Road Headquarters.
WOODSTOCK -- While a recent fire service review report adopted by city council keeps Woodstock Fire Department Headquarters at it's current location, Fire Services was back at council this week seeking funds for a feasibility study for potential upgrades to the Parkinson Road station.
Deputy Fire Chief Brian Arnold says council ended up approving the money to undertake a preliminary design and feasibility study this year.
"We were asking council to approve the study first of all, and to fund the study through the Development Charges Reserve Fund in the amount of $20,000."
Arnold believed the ask to be cost effective because of the current size of development charges reserve fund and what's available to the Department.
"Currently the reserve fund for the Fire Department stands at about $760,000, so it's well funded and we're able to do this without any immediate cost to the taxpayer."
Arnold says the design study is needed to help meet future and anticipated needs for storage, housekeeping and will also look into adding a public reception area.
Now in its 40th year operating as the city's fire headquarters, Arnold says the station facility has outgrown its capacity in some respects, adding there are several issues pertaining to accessibility and other deficiencies which need to be addressed.
