United Way Oxford's annual community celebration saw them raise over $1 million dollars.
WOODSTOCK - United Way Oxford held their annual community celebration on March 28th, celebrating this past year's contributions.
United Way Oxford raised $1,227,005 this past year, which is the most money ever raised by the organization.
Executive Director for United Way Oxford, Kelly Gilson says the event was not only to celebrate the amount they raised, but the impact they have had on the community.
"Every year when we wrap our campaign, we actually call it our community celebration because it's not just a celebration about the dollars we raise, it's a celebration about the volunteers, the effort and the commitment and the people we're supporting so it really is a community celebration."
Gilson adds it's great to see the community come together and see the positive influence their work has done for everyone.
"I think it's so important to celebrate and to actually have a positive environment where we can see, whether it's we as staff or volunteers, or our donors, can actually see some the impact that they're having and they can hear from people whose lives have been touched by the work that we do and that our partners do because you go home knowing that you are actually making a difference and that we are indeed having a positive influence on people's lives. And it doesn't get any better than that."
This year's celebration was called Local Love and it was held inside the Quality Hotel & Suites.
Some of this year's contributions included Day of Caring, Tampon Tuesday, Supplies for Students and projects from Youth United.
