$2,000 will be heading to the Operation Sharing Food for Friends Program from Unifor Local 636
WOODSTOCK - The Unifor Local 636 has made a substantial donation to Operation Sharing.
$2,000 has been handed over to go to the Food for Friends Card Program which is a system to provide dignity and healthy choices for those who cannot afford it. Executive Director with Operation Sharing, Stephen Giuliano, cannot thank the community enough for their outpouring support. "It means so much to us each year to receive $2,000 that our Local Unifor 636 kindly donates to us, especially since they are donating towards our Food For Friends Food Card Program. They have a high respect and regard for what we are trying to do in providing healthy choices to those less fortunate."
Giuliano is excited to see this project actually starting to gain traction. "It has almost had a life of its own now, it's not only sustaining itself presently but it is also gaining further support. Any money collected goes directly back on the cards for the less fortunate, so the $2,000 that we have received in this kind donation today will go directly back to feed those less fortunate on those food cards."
President of Unifor Local 636, Ross Gerrie, says they couldn't have given the money to a better place. "This has been going on for at least 15 years where we have been able to negotiate at some of our workplaces a social justice fund, we were just fortunate enough that we were able to negotiate at a couple of our plants. Operation Sharing is a little bit different, it was a food bank, now it is the card system where the can go in and buy fresh vegetables, fresh meat, fresh whatever, and it gives them a lot more dignity." Several grocery stores have taken part in the community to allow a wide range of services to be offered through this program.
