The Thames Valley District School Board has set up a new fraud prevention program which includes a tip line for their employees.
Known as FRANK, the tip line encourages whistle blowing and it urges employees to report any type of fraud happening in the school system. Thames Valley Associate Director Jeff Pratt tells Heart FM they set up this line because of two recent high profile fraud cases that cost the board $2 million dollars.
"So with this program, the fraud hotline, it's specific or the scope is specific to financial fraud in the organization. So it includes a whole variety of items, such as theft, unauthorized use of assets, claiming unauthorized expenses, falsification of benefit claims. It could be a whole variety of sources for financial fraud and one of them is being financial fraud due to employee absences, so that was included as part of the score and that is clearly what we have some concerns raised on."
Union officials are calling this a snitch line and say it is targeted at teachers who play hooky from work by calling in sick. The anti fraud phone number is 1-866-921-6714 and you can also send it in an email at tvdsb@integritycounts.ca.
