TVDSB Disbands Rural Task Force but Maintains Trustee Distribution

The TVDSB has decided to eliminate the Rural Education Task Force and maintain the current trustee distribution.

TVDSB - The Thames Valley District School Board has decided to maintain the current trustee distribution.

This means the school board will continue to have six County trustees, six London trustees, one First Nation trustee and three student trustees. It was considering moving one of the County seats to the City of London, which would have left only 5 rural seats on the school board.

School Board Chair Lori-Ann Pizzolato says Thames Valley is committed to supporting students in rural and urban communities.

“As Trustees, we represent all students across Thames Valley. This decision shows our continued support for rural and urban priorities. We remain committed to advancing the best possible learning environments for all students, no matter where they live.”

Thames Valley Trustees also decided to eliminate the Rural Education Task Force last night.

The school board had removed the task force from its website after a draft report was sent to councils in Oxford, Elgin and Middlesex. According to the London Free Press, Thames Valley Trustees believe the task force strayed outside its mandate's boundaries went it made the draft report public and was taking too long to complete a final version of the report.

Zorra Township Mayor Marcus Ryan, who was also the Vice Chair of the Task Force, says the decision to eliminate the Rural Education Task Force is a failure of of governance.
