The TVDSB is implementing measures that should reduce the deficit from $32 million to $10.6 million.
TVDSB - The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) wants to restore financial stability with minimal impact on the learning environment and support services for students.
The 2025-2026 budget includes a deficit of $32 million, so the school board has been implementing a recovery plan to address it.
It says the current deficit is driven by costs related to absences in addition to other staffing pressures, so the recovery plan includes strategic staff reductions. It also includes a review of operational expenses, to make sure they're sustainable in the long-term.
The school board says these measures should bring the deficit down to $10.6 million.
Director of Education Bill Tucker says the TVDSB has been working alongside the supervisor appointed by the Ministry of Education, with a goal of balancing the budget while strengthening the educational experience for students.
"The Thames Valley District School Board remains committed to addressing financial challenges while making sure that our students continue to have access to the support and services they need. Our focus is on making thoughtful adjustments that will help us maintain the high standards of education our community expects, while working toward long-term financial stability."
