The Government of Canada is going to provide students with the Canada Emergency Student Benefit where students will receive $1,250 a month.
CANADA - Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the Federal Government's plan to support students during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Trudeau says they are launching the Canada Emergency Student Benefit to provide immediate help.
"With this benefit, you will get $1,250 a month from May until August and if you take care of someone else or have a disability, that amount will go up to $1,750 each month. This benefit is designed for you, if you a post secondary student right now, if you are going to College in September or if you graduated in December 2019."
Students can only apply for this benefit if they did not already qualify for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit or E.I. Trudeau says students working part time may also be eligible for the benefit.
"It's there for you, even if you have a job, but you are only making up to $1,000 a month. The period covered by the benefit will start on May 1st and your payments will be delivered through the Canada Revenue Agency."
Trudeau says the Government is also going create new student jobs and double student grants. All of these measures will add up to approximately $9 Billion dollars for students. This measure will need approval in the House of Commons before students can start applying.
