A group is at the TA Truck Stop raising awareness for breast cancer research
WOODSTOCK - The TA truck Stop in Woodstock will be full of pink today.
Trucking for a Cure returns that sees hundreds of transport truck drivers decorate their big rigs in pink to support a very worthwhile cause. Organizer Joanne MacKenzie is pleased with support Woodstock has given them, and explains how this event hits close to home. "Trucking for a Cure is a community event partner in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, we started in 2010. My aunt passed away from cancer, her 3rd battle, I am a breast cancer survivor and everything I learned about breast cancer was from my aunt. I just wanted to do more and just keep her memory in my mind."
As the 6th Annual Trucking for a Cure is currently underway until 4pm MacKenzie cannot thank the supporters from Woodstock enough. "It has been great! The crew here at the TA truck stop in Woodstock, they are unbelievable they're selling the pink ribbons for donations. A week before the event they were baking and they raised a lot of money within their establishment as well for the foundation."
MacKenzie explains what to look forward to when you attend. "There is lots to do for everybody you don't have to be a truck driver to come out and enjoy the day. Our goal is $75,000 just to get the exposure out there and bring the awareness. It is Breast Cancer Awareness Month where 1 in 9 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Come out and support so you can be apart of the fight against breast cancer." The biggest activity of the day will be when hundreds of transport trucks take to the 401 to support the cause in a convoy.
