The swap style event is back Saturday
SOUTH WEST OXFORD - Lion's Park in Sweaburg will be the location of the third TrashapaloozAha event on Saturday September 20th. The events creator, Karen Paton-Evans was inspired by spring cleaning- when people put unwanted items on the boulevard. As opposed to letting the unwanted items get thrown in the trash, TrashapaloozAha wants to give them new life through a swap event.
OPAL president Bryan Smith says the event is a great opportunity for students moving away from home who need to get rid of stuff or for students to find items to furnish their student house free of cost.
Those interested in getting rid of items ranging from electronics to scrap metal can drop off them off at Lion's Park the day of the event between 9am and 2 p.m. The items are considered donations and TrashapaloozAha will give them to anyone who wants them free of charge. The remaining items will them be given to the other present community groups such as goodwill.
Smith says there are limits on what you can bring to the event he says you cannot bring 'produce or unusable items.'
The event has grown significantly since its inauguration- first starting off in a dump truck garage before moving to Ingersoll arena and now to Lion's Park in Sweaburg. OPAL president Bryan Smith says the event is being held in Sweaburg because it is 'very close and convenient for people of Tillsonburg and Woodstock."
Also on hand will be displays and information from several community organizations including; Fusion youth activity and technology centre, Habitat for Humanity, ReStore and goodwill.
Rain or shine the event will run.
Acceptable Items include:
-Electronics
-Furniture
-Tools
-Toys
-Kitchenware
-Books
-Decorations
-Building Materials
-Scrap Metal
Event begins at 9am and runs until 5pm, however drop off will only last until 2 p.m.
TrashapaloozAha is held by Oxford Coalition for Social Justice, OPAL Alliance and Ingersoll District Nature Club.
