The provincial government has selected Tillsonburg as one of 11 municipalities to receive funding as part of the Community Transportation Pilot Grant Program.
TILLSONBURG - "Elated."
That was the word used to describe the feeling the Chair of the Tillsonburg Transportation Steering Committee had when he heard they were selected as one of 11 municipalities to receive funding as part of the Community Transportation Pilot Grant Program.
John Verbakel says the $100,000 enables them to really move forward and really focus bringing transportation to the Town.
"Over the next two years developing -- what we are hoping -- will be a system that will be useful for seniors who don't have their drivers license any longer or people who can't afford vehicles or taxis or people with developmental disabilities so that they can get around town and around the community just as easily as -- you know -- people who have vehicles."
Verbakel says the first step is to hire a Transportation Coordinator.
Verbakel says it's unclear at this point when the Town will see the money.
"It comes in sort of chucks over the next two years. I can't remember what the chucks are but the first order of business will be to reconvene the Tillsonburg Transportation Steering Committee to get together and put together a plan for hiring a coordinator."
