The Town of Tillsonburg is going to use government funding to upgrade the Community Centre pool and install a new splash pad just outside the Lake Lisgar waterpark.
TILLSONBURG - The Town of Tillsonburg is using money from the Canada Infrastructure Fund to make improvements to the in-ground pool at the Community Centre and build a new outdoor splash pad.
The Town will use the money to build a new pool deck, barrier-free changerooms and upgrades to the pool roof, lighting, health club and sauna. The splash pad will be located just outside of the Lake Lisgar waterpark and will be free to use for all kids and families.
The work will cost around $5 million dollars. The Town will invest $1.3 million toward the work, while the federal and provincial governments will contribute $2 million and $1.7 million respectively.
Mayor Stephen Molnar says this is exciting news for Tillsonburg.
“I want to thank all the people involved in putting this application together, and making this project become a reality. I want to recognize the Federal Minister of Infrastructure Catherine McKenna and her Provincial counterpart Kinga Surma, as well as former Provincial Minister Laurie Scott and Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman for their tireless efforts.”
Director of Parks and Recreation Chris Baird says they're grateful for the support from both levels of Government.
"Many of these upgrades have been on our radar for a long time, but we knew we couldn’t do them alone. I’m pleased we’re going to be able to work together and get them done.”
CAO Kyle Pratt says this falls in line with the Town's vision for the future.
"Our recently updated Community Strategic Plan identifies lifestyle and amenities as a strategic priority. The vision is for Tillsonburg to be a vibrant, engaged community, built on partnerships, that offers a high quality of life for everyone. This announcement brings us closer to achieving that objective.”
