Tillsonburg Councillors have the public in mind. They turned down a recommendation to change some of their committee procedures thinking they would discourage public participation. Some of the changes included moving closed sessions to the end of the open council meetings and giving 24 hours less notification of a special meeting. The town's Acting CAO David Samis says the recommendations were made after security issues called for a special meeting a few weeks ago. "It was to address concerns in the public council had before about trying to meet things that were urgent in nature," said Samis. But the Councillors did not agree with the recommendations. Town staff will have to rewrite the draft Procedural By-Law if they want the council's approval.
