Starting on Thursday, it will be mandatory to wear a face mask while in enclosed public spaces. The order is mandatory after a one-week grace period was permitted.
OXFORD COUNTY - Residents across Oxford County will be required to wear face masks starting on Thursday while in enclosed public spaces.
The order is mandatory after a one-week grace period was permitted for businesses in Oxford, Elgin and St.Thomas to become prepared, after Southwestern Public Health instructed them to mandate face coverings in enclosed public spaces.
SWPH says all commercial establishments, public transit, and commercial service vehicles are to implement two policies; one that requires everyone to wear face coverings while in public spaces and the second policy is for public health measures in enclosed employee spaces that are not accessible to the public.
The health unit says there are exemptions for certain individuals, including children under two years old or children under five years old if they cannot be persuaded to wear one by a caregiver.
A face covering by-law has already been approved in other areas, including Brant County. Norfolk County council also approved a mandatory by-law for face masks, which went into effect yesterday.
