The annual Hawkins-Gignac Memorial Golf Tournament is coming up to help spread the word about the dangers of CO.
PARIS - The annual Hawkins-Gignac Memorial Golf Tournament is fast approaching. The tournament is a major fundraiser for the Hawkins-Gignac Foundation, which raises awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide.
Each year the tournament has raised about $25,000 for the foundation, which means they have raised about $200,000 in total since the tournament began. This year they are hoping to raise between $25,000 and $30,000.
Executive Director John Gignac tells Heart FM what this year's proceeds will be used for.
"We're starting the new education program in the schools. We are getting colouring books etcetera made up and it costs a lot of money to do that but we find it very important because we want to educate the children about the dangers of carbon monoxide so they can carry the message home."
The tournament will take place on September 9th at the Paris Grand Golf and Country Club. Registration will kick off at 10 a.m. and it costs $160 a person to sign up. Opening ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. and there will be a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m.
The Hawkins-Gignac Foundation was created after Gignac's niece, Laurie Hawkins along with her two children and husband died of carbon monoxide poisoning in their Woodstock home in 2008.
