An off-load nurse makes sure a patient is assessed, triaged, and off-loaded into the emergency department.
TILLSONBURG - Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital (TDMH) will have it's very own dedicated off-load nurse.
It will be their job to help the paramedics when they arrive to make sure the patient is assessed, triaged, and off-loaded into the emergency department.
Ryan Hall, Oxford County's Director of Paramedic Services, says this will help improve our ambulance response times.
"By dedicating offload nurse support to TDMH, paramedic crews will be able to transfer care more quickly and return to the community faster. This will strengthen service capacity across Oxford County by improving ambulance availability where it is currently most constrained."
April Mullen, the Chief Nursing Executive and Vice President of Clinical Services, says the new role will be mutually beneficial to paramedics and hospital staff.
"TDMH and Oxford County Paramedic Services have a strong collaborative relationship. We are excited to build on this relationship through this initiative that benefits our community."
The dedicated off-load nurse role is expected to be implemented in mid-October. The role will be covered seven-days a week during the peak times of ambulance arrival.
This position is made possible thanks to grant funding after Oxford County received $109,200 from Ontario's Dedicated Offload Nurses Program.
