Environment Canada is predicting a high of minus 12 for Woodstock today, but it's going to feel like minus 27 this morning and minus 20 this afternoon.
OXFORD/ELGIN/MIDDLESEX - Southwestern Public Health has issued its first cold weather alert for 2024.
This usually happens whenever Environment Canada forecasts an air temperature of minus 15 or lower, or a wind chill of minus 20 or lower. Here in the Friendly City, we're supposed to see temperatures within that range for the next few days.
Those looking for warmth can visit the Tillsonburg Community Centre or the Reeves Community Complex in Woodstock. In terms of shelters, we have The Inn in Woodstock and the Inn Out of the Cold program in Tillsonburg.
SWPH officials are advising everyone to dress in layers, get lots of rest, and stay hydrated, but drinks with caffeine or alcohol could lead to dehydration.
You can find more information on the Southwestern Public Health website.
