SWOX Council Looking At Possible System To Control Building Lights and Temperatures Remotely

The system would allow for lower temperatures in buildings when they're not in use and turning off the lights in the building, preventing someone from having to go back to the facility to do it.

SOUTH-WEST OXFORD - Finances for a municipality can be more than just dollars and cents, sometimes it is a matter of degrees.

South-West Oxford Council is looking into creating a system where lights and building temperatures can be controlled remotely. This would allow for lower temperatures in buildings when they are not in use and if someone forgot to turn off the lights they would not have to go back to the facility to do it.

Mayor David Mayberry says they hope this can save the Township some money.

"Sometimes people just simply make mistakes, they forget to turn the lights off, or they forget to turn the heat down, then is there ways of dealing with that remotely or a virtual way, that is one thing we are looking at and hopefully cut some expenses from the budget. Not only do we save greenhouse gas emissions but we also keep money in the communities pocket." 

Although the Township is looking at every one of its facilities, lowering temperatures may not be the answer everywhere. One example cited was the Beachville museum where building temperature and humidity must be kept constant in order to preserve historical documents.
