Early Tuesday morning at 12:25, Woodstock Fire received calls about a shed fire spreading into the nearby Huron Park Baptist Church. Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says the fire was started at a the shed beside the church. "It's believed to have started at a shed on the property, when police arrived at the scene, it was fully engulfed in flames and the fire spread to the roof of the church, and a nearby trailer was also damaged in the blaze."
Residents in the area called 9-1-1 right away and firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze, and prevented any additional spread. The damage estimate is pegged at $30 000 and VanLeewan says the fire is being considered an arson. The Inspector from the Woodstock Fire Department and the Criminal Investigation Branch and Forensics Identification Unit from the Woodstock Police Service are investigating.
