A recent public survey from Walker Environment is being met with a few complaints.
OXFORD COUNTY - Walker Environmental is getting criticism for how its handling its recent public survey.
The company behind the landfill proposal near Ingersoll has sent out a public survey as a part of their environmental review process.
President of the Oxford People Against the Landfill Bryan Smith says the survey is receiving a lot of complaints.
"People are telling me that they think the questions are significantly biased and that there are very few ways to answer them that don't in fact say that you're in favor of a dump, that people categorically reject."
Among the complaints include questions with only multiple choice answers, preventing feedback, as well as not targeting enough people.
Smith adds people need to read the survey carefully.
"Read it very carefully and decide what parts of it they want to answer, and answer them very clearly. Some parts are multiple choice and people have told me that none of those multiple choice answers really say what they want to say, and my suggestion is write in what you want to say."
The survey is a part of Walker's review assessment in order to get approval from the provincial government. It is the latest in an ongoing battle of a landfill proposal in Oxford County, which communities across the region are fighting against.
For many years, the region has been an area for waste management companies, and more recently, the city of Toronto to dump their waste. Those fighting against the proposal fear it will cause water contamination, air pollution and heavy truck traffic.
There are already several landfills in the region that are close to being full and if Walker Environment receives approval, the landfill would have close to one million tonnes of waste a year.
