689 Students were able to go back to school with brand new supplies thanks to the local United Way.
The United Ways Supplies for Students program allowed 689 students in Oxford County to go back to school shopping with dignity this year.
Students in grades JK-6 received a $35 shopping code and students in grades 7-12 received a $50 shopping code to go back to school shopping. Resource Development Coordinator Jennifer Belleth.
"I think it gave the families the opportunity to do what every parent wants to do which is help their child to be successful and encouraging them with school and being prepared is all a part of that."
Of the 689 students registered, 389 students attend schools in Woodstock, 115 in Ingersoll, 123 in Tillsonburg and 51 in rural schools such as Thamesford, Norwich, Hickson and Innerkip. Belleth says this program wouldn't be possible without the amazing support and generosity from our residents.
"The generosity of our community has helped this program to succeed throughout Oxford. Donations from workplaces, corporations, special events and residents have all come forward. These donations were made through United Way Oxford, or given through Staples Woodstock and Staples Tillsonburg, a partner to this program. Donations for Supplies4Students can be made any time throughout the year by calling United Way Oxford."
She says this program was a huge success this year.
"Supplies4Students is one example of supporting kids to be all that they can be. Family circumstances can change quickly and if we can help a student start their school year with confidence, dignity and hope, I believe we have done a very good thing."
