The next Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training program (ASIST) will take place on September 6th and 7th.
The Woodstock and Area Community Health Centre is working with the local Canadian Mental Health Association in order to offer a two day ASIST session.
ASIST stands for Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.
Crisis and Outreach Team Leader Janine Donner says the two day training session on September 6th and 7th will teach people what they should do if they encounter someone who is experiencing suicidal thoughts.
"We look at things that can cause suicidal thoughts to arise; we look at how to support someone and how to help them in that moment when they are experiencing those thoughts."
It costs $175 for an adult over the age of 18 to register for ASIST. CMHA will also offer another two day ASIST session on November 2nd and 3rd.
Donner adds CMHA Oxford does offer another suicide intervention training program for youth.
"safeTALK is a three hour training to give people basic skills to help an individual experiencing suicidal thoughts in that moment."
If you are interested in signing up for ASIST or safeTALK, contact Mercedes at CMHA Oxford by calling 519-539-8055 with the extension 211.
