Student Supply Program Seeks Donations

The United Way's Supplies for Students Program hopes to help set students up for success.

The United Way Oxford has changed things up for this year's back to school supplies drive.

They are asking for financial donations instead of physical ones.

Resource Development Coordinator Jennifer Belleth says this new model for the Supplies for Students program could help students get exactly what they need to be successful.

"We realized as we talked around the table that a lot of families have been incredibly thankful for the backpacks they have received in the past, but many of the materials in those backpacks would go to waste."

They also hope that by letting students pick their own supplies it takes away some of the stigma around the program.

"We hope the result of that will be that they take some pride in the fact they have been able to shop like everyone else and enter school with a sense of pride as well knowing they are equipped and ready to go."

Staples Woodstock and Tillsonburg are helping out with this program and there will even be a mobile store in Ingersoll.

Families can sign up to take part by contacting 211. The United Way is also looking for adult volunteers to help out between August 27th and September 10th.
