Students in Zorra Township will be getting their hands dirty to help attract monarch butterflies to the area.
THAMESFORD - Students from AJ Baker public school will be planting milkweed throughout Zorra Township as part of their Monarch Butterfly Project.
The students were able to make this project possible after presenting the idea to council during a special delegation from the students. Zorra Township Clerk Karen Martin tells Heart FM they will be planting the milkweed at three locations on Friday.
"One at our Memorial Forest on 43rd line, one at the Grace Patterson Park, and then another final waystation at our township office in Thamesford."
Planting milkweeds will help attract more Monarch butterflies to the Township. Martin says the students presented a couple of options to council for a municipal project they could do and in the end this project gained approval.
"There were various ideas that were brought forward but one that council felt passionate about and the students and their teacher felt passionate about was the Monarch Butterfly Project."
