The OPP are wanting to make sure the lines for 9-1-1 remain open for the most important emergencies.
WEST REGION - There is a big reminder coming from the OPP.
With the recent heat wave and other weather related incidents, it has caused different and changing road conditions. Sergeant, Ed Sanchuck of the West Region OPP shared a video on social media with this message.
"Please do me a favor. From our OPP family to yours and from everyone working in our communications center across the province, please do not call 911 for road closure updates or general information. This not only ties up emergency lines; it also delays response for those individuals that require emergency assistance."
Sanchuck says there are other resources to use.
"For accurate and up-to-date information, such as weather forecasts and alerts, you can also go to weather.gc.ca, for any road closings or traffic conditions, you can also go to 511on.ca or municipal511.ca."
Sanchuck mentions a huge thank you to all of the call takers and dispatchers, as they work hard day in and day out to keep everyone safe.
