The Woodstock community has come together to remember a six year old girl who died over the weekend due to group A strep.
WOODSTOCK - An autopsy has revealed that group A streptococcus was the cause of death for one little girl in Woodstock.
At the time of her death, the cause was unknown and in the days preceding her death the girl seemed fine. Brooklynne woke up Saturday morning with a fever and was given Advil, but around 10:30 am the six year old collapsed and was rushed to Woodstock Hospital where paramedics and doctors were unable to revive her.
It is rare for Strep A to have this effect, as it usually causes minor infections, but in some cases the virus can cause severe and life-threatening illnesses.
A neighbour and family friend has set up a Go Fund Me campaign to help the family with funeral expenses. As of this morning, the campaign has reached over $7 000 donated by community members.
A visitation for Brooklynne will be held today at Brock and Visser Funeral Home from 6pm until 8pm. The funeral will follow tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.
A pink balloon release has also been arranged in Brooklynne's memory - it will be at Southside Park on Saturday afternoon at 2pm.
