Parents are reminded to talk to kids about the dangers of waterways during winter break.
Kids and adults are being reminded to keep an eye on waterways during winter break.
The mild winter we have been experiencing in Oxford County means most lakes and rivers are far from being frozen, but still present a real hazard.
Parents are reminded to talk to kids about staying away from waterways. It is also a good idea to remind kids to always know their surroundings when they are out playing - whether that be tobogganing, building snowmen, or any other winter activity.
For those kids itching to strap on the skates, OPP Constable Lisa Narancsik suggests going to a local arena instead.
"There are a lot of free public skates out there so kids can access probably free skates almost every day of the holidays so let's do it in a safe spot."
Adults are also reminded to be cautious when out this winter - skiers, snowmobile enthusiasts, and anyone else taking part in winter activities should make sure they are well aware of any nearby waterways.
