Council will look to figure out what to do with restaurant patios, either new or existing, and will also consider zoning and pedestrian right of way as the Province eases emergency measures.
INGERSOLL - With the easing of some of the emergency measures by the province, it may mean new headaches for municipalities.
In Ingersoll, Council is going to hold a special meeting Monday night to try and figure out what to do with new or expanding patio areas in front of restaurants. The town must consider zoning, pedestrian right of way, and as Mayor Ted Comiskey says people who own restaurants have to figure out if a patio makes economic sense.
"Can people still walk across parking lots and sidewalks and still maintain six feet of distance. When you talk to the restaurants themselves, and they say for three or four tables out in front of the restaurant, is that enough profit to warrant opening."
Comiskey says town staff have been talking to other municipalities, such as Woodstock to find out how they are dealing with the new reality.
