Local artists are invited to submit their portfolio to take part in the next Solstice Project. The project is organized by Why Not Us, in collaboration with the Woodstock Art Gallery, The Small Business Centre and Hylander Studios.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock's Why Not Us is collaborating with three community partners for a special project.
They're calling on all artists to take part in the next Solstice Project.
Treasurer Duane Kumala-Thomas says they're trying to inspire kids and give them a positive option to progress.
"We're trying to round up a team of high schoolers, local talent, to put together some art that we can display and give them a chance to exhibit their work."
Thomas adds they're open to all forms of art, including animation and dance.
It is a community project that starts with one piece of artwork that's shown to other artists, inspiring them to create their own. Later on, the entire themed collection is curated and exhibited for the public.
He says the goal is to show students what it takes to put on an exhibition, giving them the confidence and skills to host one themselves.
Among the project's collaborators include The Small Business Centre.
Program Assistant Brenda Tait explains why it was important to be involved.
"We decided that the building was going to be sitting empty and we thought it would be a great venue for people to come and showcase the businesses."
Their venture Engage Oxford will have a storefront downtown turned into a Market and Art Studio, which will be a creative space for the Why Not Us team.
The other partners are the Woodstock Art Gallery and Highlander Studios.
Portfolio submissions are now being accepted and packages are also available at high schools in town. You can email photos and/or links to your work to wnucanada@gmail.com.
Thomas adds that he and a colleague will be going around to schools shortly to talk to them.
