No snow has fallen yet but Woodstock youth are invited to help seniors this winter with shoveling snow.
WOODSTOCK - Teenagers in Woodstock are being asked to put down the controller for Fortnite and pick up a shovel.
Snow buddies is a chance for youth to gain volunteer hours or to even get paid upon request from your snow buddy. It also gives them an opportunity to get involved in their neighbourhood. For more on the youth opportunity here's Emma Vondervoot, Supervisor of Recreational Programs for the City of Woodstock.
"I think its a great way for them to help out in the Winter and form relationships in the community. It's also a great generational project as well, it's nice to get to know new people in their community."
Vondervoot also gives some more information on our morning show Tuesday morning about this program.
"You get paired with a neighbour in your neighbourhood, who is elderly or needs some assistance shovelling snow."
Youth can register for $10 on the City of Woodstock's web site and to find more information as well. Training gets started this fall to get ready for the winter and it will teach kids how to properly shovel and some safety tips while out in the community.
