Ashton Court family fined $235 following fire
A Smoke Alarm fine has been laid against an Ashton Court homeowner after a fire caused $100,000 in damage Boxing Day.
Fire officials were called after a fire started in the basement furnace room and spread quickly throughout the house, burning a hole in the first floor bedroom directly above the furnace room.
Luckily the family was able to escape though no battery was found in the smoke alarm outside of the bedrooms on the first floor.
Deputy Chief Brian Arnold says they can’t stress enough that smoke alarms save lives. The smoke in a fire puts you into a deeper sleep and will not wake you in the event of a fire in your home.
The family has been fined $235.
