The skating clubs in Woodstock, Norwich and Plattsville will be hosting their end of the season ice shows on Saturday April 2nd.
It's going to be a busy weekend for lots of skaters in Oxford County. The skating clubs in Woodstock, Plattsville and Norwich will be hosting their end of the season skating carnivals on Saturday April 2nd.
A skating carnival is a giant ice show where figure skaters can showcase their talents. The ages of these skaters typically range from 3-18.
Each of these ice shows also has a specific theme. Sarah Kloepfer, the Carnival Chair of the Norwich club tells us what their theme is this year.
"The theme this year is A Night At The Drive In. We are basing the whole program on movies ranging from 1950 to current and we have done two famous movies from each decade."
Some of the movies being featured it the show are Mary Poppins, Annie, Footloose and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Norwich club will be having two shows at the Community Centre. There will be a matinee at 1:30pm and an evening show at 7pm.
The theme of the Woodstock skating carnival is Once Upon A Time. Their show will begin at 2pm on the red pad at the Community Complex.
Plattsville's theme this year is Dream A Little Dream. Their shows will be at the Plattsville Arena at 2pm and 7pm.
One thing all of these shows have in common is the price of admission. General admission is $10, students and children cost $5. Kids 5 years old and under are free.
Kloepfer explains why people should attend a skating carnival.
"This is the best part for the kids. They work so hard all year and this is their time to shine. They're so excited in their costumes, it's more for the kids than anything and it's to support them."
