Seven new paramedics will help save lives Oxford County.
A call for applications went out in March, and an overwhelming response flooded in from across the country. Deputy Chief of Operation and Performance Darren Hall saw an influx of 430 resumes cross the desk.
"What we were looking for were the people who were local to the area and we were really focusing this time on hiring the right person as opposed to the credential. So a lot of the interviewing was focused on the personality."
Eventually seven top candidates were chosen. Their training is now complete a special ceremony welcomed the new paramedics.
"This was our first ceremony we've had for our new recruits so I would say a lot of pride," Hall says. "When our Chief Ben Addley gave them their first set of professional paramedic epaulettes you could see the pride on a lot of the parent's faces."
The new recruits were hired on a casual/part time basis.
They are Liam Breckell, Pedro Garcia, Colton Muhlethaler, Erin Munro, Courtney Puterman, Jack Shier, and Nicola Woelfle.
