Sentencing Delivered for Ex-99er

An ex Brantford 99er has been sentenced after a hockey fight dating back to January of 2013.

WOODSTOCK - Tension was high in a Woodstock courtroom as sentencing was handed down for a case involving a fight on ice in January of 2013.

The room was absolutely silent as the judge gave a sentence of 60 hours of community service to an ex Brantford 99er player, who cannot be named due to his age.

The 99er player attacked Navy Vets player Nick Majors after Majors showed a sign of disrespect by "snowing" the Brantford goalie. This incident led the 99er to punch the Vets player at least 10 times, driving Majors to his knees, hands covering his face. 

The youth sat through the sentencing hearing with his shoulders slouched, showing no emotion, and looking straight ahead. His mother - overcome with emotion - left the courtroom before the decision was announced. 

 "He simply lost control" was a common phrase heard in the court over the past several months to describe the state of mind of the Brantford native.

The young man will receive a discharge, resulting in no criminal record and now plays for the Woodstock Navy Vets.
