Oxford County Public Health offers tips on how to have a safe summer
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford Public Health is offering up a few safety tips as people get outside and enjoy the summer.
One thing to watch out for is the sun and make sure you wear a hat and suncreen, stay hydrated and take breaks from the sun when it gets really hot outside. Manager of Health Protection Peter Haywood tells Heart FM public health inspectors will be checking out public pools, spas and beaches in Oxford this summer. "The health inspectors will look at the water quality and the water chemistry, so they measure the PH, the turbidity of that water and the clarity of it. We also look at the some of the health and safety aspects of it, including is there a first aid kit available, is there an emergency phone available and that kind of thing."
Haywood says another to watch out for this time of year is mosquitos that can carry West Nile and ticks that can carry Lyme disease. The best way to protect yourself from those bugs is by wearing repellant containing Deet. Some other tips include always stay within an arms length of children while they are swimming, don't get in the pool if you have diarrhea and test your drinking water at least three times a year if you have a private well.
