The OPP want everyone to be safe out there on the roads in all conditions during safe driving week.
OXFORD COUNTY - The first seven days of December marks National Safe Driving Week and the OPP have issued tips to keep you safe.
As we anticipate the next snowfall in the area there are things to remember before you even leave the driveway. Constable Stacey Culbert explains what you need to have inside your vehicle. "We have already had our first snowfall, and before you even start the vehicle it comes down to having a emergency safety kit within your vehicle."
Constable Culbert says if you are being closely followed by an aggressive driver, the best thing you can do is take yourself out of a potentially dangerous situation. "If you find that somebody is tailgating you or following you too closely you can always pull over to the shoulder, get yourself comfortable, let that person or vehicle pass you, and then continue on with how you are going to go. Another big one that we are always seeing is making sure that people come to a full and complete stop at all intersections and stop signs."
Heart FM also asked Constable Culbert about distracted driving; and yes, that includes stop signs and red lights. "It is absolutely against the law. So the legislation has increased to the point where now there are set fines as well as the points system. When people's attention is on their laps, it is a number one sign of what we would be looking for if their eyes are not on the road. Teach any of the other young drivers that are going to be observing you while driving to do the same thing."
