Ron Fraser would like to return to his former council seat in Woodstock City Hall.
WOODSTOCK - A former Woodstock Police Chief and city councillor is looking to get back into municipal politics.
Ron Fraser sat on city council from 2010 to 2014. Before that he was a member of the Woodstock Police Service for almost 34 years; the last 9.5 years as Chief.
During his time with the service Fraser had to address a mischief and vandalism problem in Woodstock's downtown core in 2001.
"I took the attitude that policing would only move the issue, if you want to solve the issue you need to work with the youth. I became very focused on that and as Chief created a Youth Advisory Committee for the police service."
As a city councillor he introduced the committee in council chambers.
He would like to continue to make the community a better place for youth and also seniors if he is voted back in this fall. In addition to this, Fraser would like to demonstrate fiscal responsibility with tax dollars.
Fraser had plans to run in the 2014 election, but dropped out two days after the nomination deadline after he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
"You never know if you're going to win the war, but I won that battle. I am back and I'm healthy. I still have one 15 year old child living at home and my wife just recently retired but I have some time on my hands. I always feel that I'd like to participate in the community."
