OPP are warning citizens of potentially fraudulent relationships.
OXFORD COUNTY - Last year, Canadians lost nearly $14 million due to romance scams and OPP are taking action to end it.
OPP say fraudsters will steal photos online using them on dating sites and other social media to lure their victims into sending money. Many will take the time to form false relationships in order to gain trust so they can later steal money.
Police are warning citizens to be wary of anyone claiming to be working overseas as this provides many opportunities for them to ask for money. Some tips to take into consideration are: never send money for any reason, always be suspicious of anyone professing their love too quickly over the internet and if you receive a payment from a suspect asking you to cash a cheque and send a portion back, don't do it.
