The 16th annual Oxford Invitational Youth Robotics Challenge will takeover the Goff Gymnasium today.
WOODSTOCK - More than 75 students from 16 different high schools will be facing off in the 16th annual Oxford Invitational Youth Robotics Challenge.
It will take over the Goff Gymnasium at the Reeves Community Complex in Woodstock today. The students will start setting up their projects at 2:00 p.m. and the judging will be taking place between 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
The teams started working on their robots back in September after they received a Lego Spike Prime Kit. They also have to submit a report and a video detailing everything they have learned during the building and testing process.
Brad Hammond, Woodstock's Economic Development Officer, says this fun event allows the students to start thinking about their future careers.
"The program allows students to tackle challenges and activities related to engineering, technology, and skilled trade career paths. With those making up such a significant portion of the local employment market, it’s great they have an opportunity to explore areas they may not have previously considered."
