Most residents have had a month now to adjust to the new changes in garbage and recycling collection, and it looks positive so far.
Residents of Oxford County seem to pretty happy with the changes to their garbage and recycling pickup.
It has been one month since the County moved to a 5 day system. One of the biggest changes is the County moved to a single tier system for recycling collection which means they pick it up every week on the same day as your garbage. Waste Management and Rural Property Supervisor Dave Vermeeren tells Heart they did get complaints at the start.
"We had some complaints in the first two weeks about garbage not getting collected in some of the rural spots and cul de sacs. We had somewhere around 400 calls in the County. So we typically pick up 27 000 to 28 000 households in a week and we had about 400 calls in the first week and that dropped to somewhere around 40 or 50 in the second week and I think last week we only had 30 so. The complaints have really dropped off once we figured out those areas."
The changes impacted everyone in Oxford County with the exception of the City of Woodstock who are still operating on the same system. Vermeeren says for the most part everyone is really happy with the new service and a lot of people have downloaded the wasteline app.
"People are very happy with the new level of service that we have implemented with the weekly recycling in the County while reducing the yearly cost and also lessening the environmental impact by doing the pickup with split trucks so we are picking up garbage and recycling at the same time."
