WOODSTOCK - The final report of a public inquiry examining long term care homes in the Province will be released today in Woodstock.
Justice Eileen Gillese will present her findings at noon today at the Holiday Inn. The report was done in the wake of Elizabeth Wettlaufer's crimes, which included 8 murders over a 9 year period at long term care homes in Woodstock and London. Seven of the murders happened right here in Woodstock.
The event is open to the public and the media. Heart FM will have a reporter there and we will provide you with more information later today. Several family members of Wettlaufer's victims are expected to speak as well.
The inquiry into long term care homes was announced on the same day as Wettlaufer was sentenced to prison on June 26th in 2017. It has been ongoing for over two years now. It looks at how Wettlaufer's crimes went undetected for so long. Wettlaufer had a long history of complaints filed against her and told lawyers she couldn't have committed the murders if there had been more controls on medication at long-term care homes.
You can read more about Wettlaufer's sentencing online here.
