Provincial Funding Announced for Tillsonburg

Up to $2 million from the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund will go towards well 7A upgrades in Tillsonburg.

TILLSONBURG - An investment from the province will help increase access to drinking water in Tillsonburg.

Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman says the Ford Government is investing up to $2,010,269.73 for well 7A upgrades.

"This funding is a vital investment in Oxford. It will help the County to supply more drinking water in the town which supports further growth in the community as well as existing customers."

The well 7A upgrade is one of six supply enhancement projects in the works to help increase the available drinking water in the town.

The money is coming from the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, which totals $970 million. Minister of Infrastructure Kinga Surma says it's supposed to help municipalities develop, repair, rehabilitate and expand drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure.

"By investing in drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities and connecting pipes to land, we are helping municipalities build more homes. Homes can’t be built without connections to drinking water and wastewater."

Oxford County Warden Marcus Ryan says this funding is good news for the community.

"The funding to enhance water supply in Tillsonburg supports Oxford County’s goals of being 100% Housed and growing our communities through sustainable infrastructure and development."
