Three construction trades programs will benefit from a $3.6 billion investment from the province, including the Tomorrow's Trades program.
OXFORD COUNTY - Three new projects are coming due to government funding.
The province is investing $3.6 billion into three programs that will help women and young people in Ontario learn about meaningful and well-paying careers in the construction trades.
A project that has seen Oxford County benefit is the Tomorrow's Trades program, which provides 60 grade 12 students with hands-on learning opportunities, behind-the-scenes access to high-profile construction projects, and training so they can prepare for life-changing jobs in the industry.
Executive Director of Communications for Ontario Building Trades, Kate Walsh says Woodstock will have people in the program soon.
"And then in the fall, we have another group scheduled. We do have two students joining us from Woodstock."
She adds that another area of Oxford has been represented as well.
"In a previous intake, our group worked with Habitat for Humanity in Drumbo, Ontario on the construction of a semi-detached home. There were actually two women from the Drumbo build that joined the Brick Layers Union, Local 5 in London."
Walsh says, another project is a website that will provide 1,500 people with online resources.
"For those interested in starting a career in the skilled trades, or have somewhat of an interest but aren't really sure where to go, if you visit ctaontario.ca, you can start clicking through and exploring the trades."
On the website, you will be able to find information on the 60 different skilled trades that are offered.
