Health Minister Christine Elliott says it will be at least another 4 weeks before they loosen anymore restrictions and allow further businesses to reopen as the daily numbers continue to climb.
ONTARIO - The Province of Ontario is going to wait at least another 4 weeks before loosening anymore restrictions.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says the latest trends and numbers has caused some cause for concerns.
"The latest trends in numbers has caused some concerns, especially as we begin to reopen schools and post secondary institutions. That is why, based on the advice from the Chief Medical Officer of Health and the public health measures table, we will be taking a pause of 4 weeks, or two, two week cycles of the virus, before considering any further loosening of public health measures or further reopening of businesses, facilities or organizations."
Ontario has witnessed the daily numbers steadily climb over the past two weeks. Elliott says this decision was not made lightly.
"We do need to ensure that the progress we have made is not lost. Taking a pause in further reopening at this time, will help us to avoid returning to broad scale closures and shut downs and on this, the first day of school for many young Ontarians across the Province, we need to do everything we can to limit the spread of COVID-19. The best way to keep our school safe is to keep our community safe."
Elliott is pleading with everyone to continue to follow the public health measures, wash your hands, wear a face covering and stay in your social circles.
