Improving Huron Street, north of Devonshire has been a project on the radar of City Council's for a while now.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock has made multiple bids to the province to help fund a project that has been on their radar for a while now.
For the last few years, the city's bids for funding assistance to improve Huron Street, north of Devonshire have not been successful.
City of Woodstock Engineer, Harold de Haan explains the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF).
"It's an annual fund that the province comes out with for infrastructure improvements, they have to be safety related issues to be approved."
Council approved the application to request $576,000 from the province for funding the reconstruction.
Improving Huron Street, north of Devonshire is something that needs to be done, and either way will be done says de Haan.
"It's already in our capital plan to do the work, we are just hoping that if we get the money, it will help us and prevent us from spending the money."
A full reconstruction would cost the city $640,000. If the project receives (OCIF) funding, the province would cover $576,000 of the project leaving the City on the hook for the remaining $64,000.
In order for a project to be considered, there must be a capital component. Infrastructure expansion projects to accommodate new employment or residential
development on greenfield sites and recreational trail projects are not eligible for the funding.
Municipalities are only able to submit one project, and will have to wait until January 2019 to find out if their project gets the funding.
