Norfolk OPP say the annual Pottahawk event was a relatively successful one, with only a few minor incidents. Police say they laid 45 liquor license charges, along with 24 Canada Shipping Act (small vessel regulations) charges. There were also 10 medical calls, including a near drowning, where a woman suffered a neck injury after falling off a boat. Another woman was found face-down in the water. Police also assisted in the towing of vessels and rescued 23 people after the vessel that they were traveling on struck a sandbar, and their boat took on water. Over 10,000 people turned out to the sandbar party, along with 2000 boats. OPP say they're generally pleased with how the event turned out, and say the level of safety was due to the number of emergency personnel standing by. OPP were assisted by the R.C.M.P, Canadian Coast Guard, Norfolk County Paramedics, Norfolk County Fire and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
