Snow plows have already hit our local roadways and county staff want to keep everyone safe.
OXFORD COUNTY - As the snow plows hit the roadway, Oxford County staff are asking drivers to be mindful of plow operators.
Springford Road Patrol Foreman Dennis Walter says the safest spot on the road is behind a snow plow.
"Snow plow operators always have obstacles to go around. Please give plow operators one complete lane and stay a safe distance back and remember no plowing snow onto County Roads, you can be charged under the Highway Traffic Act."
"While you're driving a snow plow, you have many levers on your right hand side you're always in control of. Your plow is either going up or down or your wing is going up or down or you push buttons to make the sander come down if you're putting sand or salt." Walter also says plows create their own wind which can make visibility for those following closely behind very difficult.
"The snow plow may have a mailbox or a sign or parked vehicle to go around so they may swerve out to miss that obstacle and when they swerve out, a lot of times their mirrors are covered over so it's very hard for them to see who is travelling behind them."
Walter says starting December 1, the County has implemented a new no overnight parking policy on County Roads for all villages within the County.
